Happy Monday

Good morning.....it's Monday....it was a very long weekend and Monday kind of snuck up on me. So :D Here's a little randomness for today. I should be back to fully functioning brain capacity by tomorrow. I hope :D

    1. There's just no guessing what kids will like. While designing the website for my children's book pen name, I ran a few backgrounds by my kids. Thought they'd flip over the cool photo-manipped background I found. Didn't interest them at all. Their favorite - a pretty meadow scene with a windmill, rainbow and wildflowers. They reacted with audible gasps. Go figure.

    2. Had a whole Twilight marathon over the weekend. Watched all 3 available movies and reread Breaking Dawn (well....skimmed through half of it :D). Love this series, yet feel guilty about it. Kind of like the way I feel about New Kids on the Block :) You know everyone else loves them too but for some reason it's not "cool" - whatev....I heart me some Twilight...and New Kids  ;-P

    3. Whole wheat bagels have 49 grams of carbs....I'd be better off eating a piece of chocolate cake for breakfast....Does anyone have chocolate cake? I'll be right over

    4. Dreams that are cool at night tend to linger in a disturbing way during the day and sort of throw all my plans out the window. All I want to do is get back to sleep and finish the story :D P.S. This is also why my idea file is so enormous.....I have the COOLEST dreams :D

    5. Getting weird looks from the hubs about the scraps of paper all over the house with a bunch of different signatures all over them. But hey, if I have to pick a pen name, I need to be sure I can sign the dang thing.

    6. It's hard picking a pen name.

    7. Correction. It's hard to narrow down the pen name.

    8. I'm extremely irritated because I thought of the PERFECT name last night. This morning, all I can remember is the last name. And it was the first name I was so in love with. I really need to keep a pad of paper by my bed.

    9. I have a slight OCD thing about odd numbers, so I'm rambling about OCD tendencies so I can end on an even number :D

    10. Woohoo! An even number :D Have a few funnies and see you tomorrow!

Monday Mayhem - Attack of the Killer Bedspread

You know, you just never realize how important each and every finger is until you can't use one of them. Washing your hair...almost impossible. Getting dressed...insanely hard. Tying shoes? Not going to happen. Typing my usual 100 words a minute (okay, maybe 70) - yeah...I don't think so.

I injured myself early Sunday morning....and not in a cool way. Oh no. I couldn't smash my finger building my kids the world's most awesome tree house (like one amazing writer/mom I know). Or maybe crush it while saving my child from a burning vehicle.

    Nope. Not me.

I managed to rip off almost the entire nail of my left middle finger at 2 in the morning....while trying to pull the covers up.

Yep, that's right. I was attacked by a big, soft, goose-feather-filled BLANKIE.

    Seriously, how embarrassing is that?

My loving husband had pulled his usual "hog all the blankets and shove them under my body then fall into a state of sleep that is closer to dead than slumber so my wife can't get any warmth and almost freezes to death" routine and when I tried to dislodge them by yanking with all my pitiful might....somehow....the blankets stayed put and half of my nail went flying leaving behind (TMI coming up) a raw, sore, bloody mess.

I found this irritating and inconvenient until I was getting ready for church and realized playing the piano for the children's Sunday School was going to be interesting sans middle finger...as is typing (though I'm doing considerably better than I expected) :D Though, I'm seriously considering taking some prenatal vitamins to speed up my nail growth because, um, OWWWW!

In any case, :D just thought I'd share my ridiculous injury on this early Monday morning and send out a huge wish that everyone else's weekend went a little better than mine :)

So, anyone else ever injure themselves in a totally humiliating, beyond ridiculous way? Or am I the only one who has killer blankets in my house? :D

And stay tuned for Wednesday!!! We are going to have a fun I HAVE THE MOST AWESOME FOLLOWERS IN THE WORLD giveaway in which I may or may not be giving away some book awesomeness....lots of them! :D

Monday RunDown

Well, it's Monday morning and I'm fighting off a cold...and have every intention of going back to bed as soon as I hit Publish on this post :D So, since my brain is a haze of nothingness at the moment, I thought I'd do a rundown of some important things coming up.

    1. Don't forget to head to the Operation Awesome Blog and become a follower for a chance to win 10 of my gently loved books and possibly a $20 gift certificate! Be sure to leave a comment on the post from yesterday either here or at OA. We are already up to 11 new followers which means I'm giving away at least 2 books so far.

    2. Since my book release date is creeping ever closer (eep!) annnnd since it comes right after the holidays, I decided I should probably start getting my epic celebrations organized. If you'd be interested in hosting me on my blog tour, please email me at authormichellemclean(at)yahoo(dot)com. I will have swag items and signed copies of books to giveaway along with the interview, guest post, review, or whatever you'd like to do with me :)

    3. Vote on the poll listed on the sidebar ---> I want to get an idea of what kinds of prize swag everyone would like to win. We are going to have some fun people, F.U.N.! :D

    4. Has anybody read any good books lately? I am actually going to make my 52 Books in 52 Weeks challenge this year (woohooo!) I read more than 52 books last year, but since I reread four or five very long series, I couldn't count those. I'm reading Rick Riordan's The Lost Hero right now and then I'm heading to the bookstore, so I need some suggestions! :D

And now, I must crash :) Have a happy Monday everyone!

Welcome to a Fabulous Few Weeks!

    Happy Monday All!!

We've got lots of fun stuff coming up so I thought I'd give you a little heads up of what's ahead in the next couple weeks.

Starting tomorrow, I'm starting a new feature, Tutor Tuesdays - adding a little non-fiction flavor to the old blog.

Friday - the awesome Christine Fonseca's book, Emotional Intensity in Gifted Students, releases and I have the incredible honor (along with our CP and all around fabulous friend Elana Johnson) to be the first stop on her blog tour. Please join us!! There may just be an opportunity to win a free copy of her book ;-D

Next week, I am very excited to be hosting the amazing K.M. Weiland. She has a brand new CD for writers coming out, Conquering Writer’s Block and Summoning Inspiration. She'll be here on Monday the 4th with an interview, Wednesday the 6th with a guest post, and Tuesday and Thursday she has a few words of awesome advice for us. Friday's Funnies will be centered around the theme of inspiration and writer's block. Don't miss this amazing spotlight week!!

And on Friday October 15th, I'll be posting a review of Christine's book - and you really don't want to miss this day because Christine will be giving away some spectacular swag!

Be sure to join me for all the upcoming fantasticness!!!!

Did anyone do anything fun this weekend? Get some amazing wordage out? I....did nothing LOL Well, not entirely true. I did a few edits on the non-fiction. But mostly, yeah, I did nothing. It was lovely :D

What's Up?

So, I was sitting here at my computer this morning thinking "Hmmm, no comments on my post yet this morning. I usually wake up to at least one or two." And then I realized that I had completely forgotten to write something.

    Oops.

    :D

Yeah, I really am just that spacey sometimes LOL

So, I thought I'd give you a little heads up on what will be coming up on the old blog in the coming weeks.

    1. I found this cute cartoon word count tracker, courtesy of Writertopia - however, it's too big to fit in my layout here, so I'll just post it once a week on WIP Wednesday. But seriously, how cute is it!?

And the best thing about it - I can make the little potato guy do different things - right now he's sleeping (because I'm not going to be able to work on my WIP for a couple days). But I can make him write, scream at the computer, act like he's shocked at what's on the screen - seriously LOVING this little guy. And as my word count grows, so will the stack of papers in the "NOVEL" box :D How cool is that? :D

    2. There are so many good books coming out in the next several weeks. I am very honored to be kicking off Michelle Davidson Argyle's blog tour for Cinders on the 19th. And I will be kicking off my sweet friend/crit partner/agent sista Christine Fonseca's blog tour for her book Emotional Intensity in Gifted Students on Oct 1st (also it's release date - Embrace the Crazy! (love that catch phrase lol)) :D And I will be posting a review of this awesome book on Oct 15th as well.

And there just might be some fun giveaways involved, so make sure you join us on those dates :D

    3. Things are clipping along with my Homework Helpers: Essays and Term Papers book. I am now deep into line edits with my fabulous editor and I think things are going very well. We had one revision turn into a whole new chapter and I am doing a semi-major revision on another chapter now. But, we aren't anticipating any other major revisions (just several minor ones :D ) so things are looking good. I believe I will have my author galleys in November for my final approval before it goes to print in Dec. Woohooo!

    4. Things are going great with my new fiction WIP. I am loving the new outline process I've got going. This time it is really working well for me. As you can see by my little potato guy above, I'm a third of the way through my book and still going strong. Made several notes for the book last night and can't wait to get back to work on it....just as soon as I finish these non-fiction revisions :D

    5. I made a meatloaf last night and it was GOOD! You may find this a strange item to be on my list but considering the fact that I set off the smoke alarm boiling water the day before (my husband is still rolling his eyes at me) then a meatloaf that is not only edible but actually enjoyable is seriously the highlight of my week LOL

    6. I totally redid my website and am LOVING it - check it out! (CLICK HERE)

How are things going for everyone out there? Progress being made? Ideas being formulated? Taking any well deserved and long overdue regenerating breaks?

Oh! and if you haven't checked out the WriteOnCon site lately, head over there now! They are going to start having monthly events - and giveaways!!!! Too awesome :)

A Postponment and Some Mondayness

Due to some uncontrollable events, we are going to postpone our Author Spotlight Week with the awesome Shaun David Hutchinson while he recuperates from some unexpected events. But, I urge any and all of you to head out and get his book, The Deathday Letter without delay! I loved this book, read it in a day, laughed, cried, and laughed some more. Serious excellence :D You can find links to buy it in my Must Read Books tab above. Please stay tuned for our spotlight week with Shaun. We will be discussing his book and even giving away a signed copy!

So, for this week we will stick to our regularly scheduled program :)

Hope all is well with everyone and hope you are all busily writing away! I'm working on it, to varying degrees of success LOL But, I figure as long as I'm getting SOMETHING down, I can give myself a pat or two on the back :)

Real life stuff getting in the way right now:

No air conditioning - hard to type when your fingers are dripping sweat. No joke.
Middle finger on left hand non-functioning - not sure what is going on with it, though I have discovered I'm pretty good at typing even though I can barely move my fingers on my left hand. Gotta love a silver lining ;-)
Kids are hot and bored and hot - but, the youngest starts summer school this week (she has a speech delay so this is just to get her up to speed before she dives into kindergarten, and she's super excited!) and we got our little pool up which my son now lives in; so this week may go better.

Goal for this week - get some writing done no matter what awesome excuses I may have! I will type one handed sitting on a block of ice if I have to!! :)

So, how is life and writing going for everyone else? I hope you are being more productive than I am ;D

Happy Monday!

Sorry for my recent lack of response to comments. I generally try to respond either by email or comment, but the last week has been HECTIC. My mom and sister and her family were visiting for most of the week, which was a blast! I haven't seen my sister in about 6 years, so I really enjoyed spending time with her. So, that part was fun, though I stayed off the computer :) But then the flu bug hit and has been making it's tummy-cramping way through my family. The kids are on the mend, but now it's my turn. Oh joy LOL

In any case, please forgive me if I don't respond as much as I have been. Rest assured, I am reading and loving all of your comments, as always :)

And now, I'm going to sign off for a bit and go back to bed :D I'll be back tomorrow! Happy Monday!!!
